Lovebirds Who've Flown the Nest

Lots of people find love at Nottingham, but for a lucky few, that love lasts well after the days they spread their wings and join our alumni community.

This Valentine’s day, we asked to hear your love stories from University, and you responded in droves! We’ve picked a few of our favourites and put them all together below to show you just how strong university love can be.

From Broadgate to Babies

“Anna and I met on our first day; in next door rooms in Flat 222 of Broadgate Park in 2001. 16 years later, we’ve been married for 6 and we’ve now got two beautiful daughters.”

Smooth Moves at the Silver Screen

“I met James in the first semester of University at the Silver Screen society, in December 2009. He was quick at making his move, as he asked me out just a week after we met! On our third anniversary, he proposed, and in June 2014, we got married in the University’s Trent building. Nearly four years on, we are both still happily married, working at the University, and have just purchased our first home together in Beeston. I look forward to many more happy years together, but I’ll always be thankful to the University of

Nottingham for bringing us together (in more ways than one!).”

Love like Wine Gets Better with Time

“Met Darren Schulz at a party in the Beeston Flats when he advised me not to drink the wine (no-one had a corkscrew so the bottle had been “opened” against the door frame). We celebrate our silver wedding anniversary this year.”

He was just a boy in physics with social skills, I was a girl in physics and now we have a lifetime of happiness to look forward to together.”

Started on the Floor

“Reece and I met about two weeks into our first year at university. My friends and I were lying on the floor of the Coates Auditorium waiting for a subsid psychopharmacology module when Reece and his friends came in and sat next to us. He asked me if I was comfortable lying on the floor. We started talking and I distinctly remember we definitely discussed Freud and Lord of the Rings. I later invited him and his friends to a movie night and we soon started going out. We got engaged whilst we were still students and later got married with most of our uni friends present on the day. We will be celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary this year.”

Since the day we Metz…

“Two months into the first year of my Pharmacy degree I met a third year medical student in the DH Lawrence bar. He offered me a drink - I asked for a Metz (shows how long ago it was!) and received a Becks. I forgave him and we’ve just celebrated 20 years together, 11 years married and two fabulous children.”

You + Me = Grand Unification

“Daniel De Metz Lydon pulled me through my degree as we bonded over Fibonacci sequences and Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, we’d stop off for a cheeky 6 inch at subway most Friday afternoons before serenading each other in Ocean. He was just a boy in physics with social skills, I was a girl in physics and now we have a lifetime of happiness to look forward to together.”
