Workshop descriptions

Breathe Here Now - Outdoors

In these workshops we will use our sensory awareness of nature to support our wellbeing.

Participants will be supported to explore the campus and to be curious about how our environment can support our sense of well-being and manage symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress.

You can attend one or more workshops.

Breathe Here Now

You will have a further chance to practice Mindfulness based exercises in between Everyday Mindfulness by attending these sessions.

This is a DROP-IN session, you do not need to register for the workshop.

Everyday Mindfulness

With practice, Mindfulness can help you let go of anxiety and focus on the present.

This workshop provides an introduction to Mindfulness with information on resources and apps for further practice.

Improve Self Esteem

Are you self-critical?
Do you constantly compare yourself with others?
Does a lack of self-confidence stop you making the most of your time here?

This workshop gives you an opportunity to gain a new perspective on the way you see yourself.

Manage Depression

Practical tips and strategies for managing the effects of low mood and depression on studying, socialising and all aspects of your day-to-day life.

Perfectionism

Do you set yourself unrealistic and unachievable standards?
Does this impact your academic progress and general wellbeing?

This workshop will help you to understand and tackle these issues.

Procrastination

A tendency to delay starting on tasks often goes hand-in-hand with perfectionism.

Come along to this workshop to get some practical tips for identifying and managing these difficulties.

Stress and Anxiety

A series of workshops providing practical tips and new ways of thinking to help you cope with stress.

You may attend a single workshop or come back for more.

Resilience

We all face challenging situations from time to time. Increasing your capacity to deal with adversity and learn from your experiences will help you both at university and beyond.

This workshop is designed to build on your existing resources and provide you with strategies for boosting your resilience.

Living with Dyslexia

Dyslexia support generally focuses on academic difficulties. This workshop will consider the bigger picture.

We will begin by looking at how your dyslexia impacts your everyday life. You will then have the opportunity to identify your own dyslexic strengths and consider how you might use this knowledge in a range of situations.

Sleep Better

Do you lie awake for hours or wake up several times a night?

Is lack of sleep stopping you from getting the most out of student life?

Come along to this workshop to find out how you can get a better night’s sleep.

We can’t promise a quick fix, but hopefully with a bit of thought and commitment you will see some significant improvements over time.

Creative Stress Management

Free yourself from the world of work for an hour.

A workshop using simple dance and movement to help you to de-stress.

No steps or techniques to learn and you can’t get it wrong.

Writing as Therapy

There is plenty of evidence to show how writing, and the process of writing can help us to make sense of our inner world and the situations we find ourselves in.

This experiential workshop will offer a space to experiment and explore how we can use what we write and how we write to help ourselves.

Paper and writing equipment will be provided.  However, if you wish please bring your favourite or preferred writing instrument(s) and paper.

Use your voice

Sound can do amazing things like balance your brain, improve your immune system, help with relaxation, reduce stress and heighten your consciousness.

There’s no promise that this workshop will do these things but it might be worth finding out.

This workshop uses basic singing and sound making so no need for any singing experience.
