About Learning Advocates

As a Students in Classrooms Learning Advocate you will provide support in a local primary or secondary classroom throughout the spring term.  Your role will be to offer support to classroom teachers which could involve helping groups of pupils with class work, working one-to-one with pupils, or helping with planning and preparation of lessons. This scheme is ideal for students considering teaching or education as a potential career.


The role

  • Undertake 10 placement days from January to May
  • Time is flexible to fit around your studies, but weekly attendance is preferred
  • Gain work experience in a local classroom and supporting teachers
  • Earn £9.20 per hour (inc. holiday pay), up to six hours per week

Key dates

Applications Open: Monday 23 September - Sunday 20 October

Assessment Days: Saturday 9 -  Sunday 10 November

Training Days: Saturday 30 November or Sunday 1 December AND Saturday 11 or Sunday 12 January

Please note you must be able to attend one of the assessment days plus one training day in November/December AND one training day in January to be placed on the scheme

The University of Nottingham works in partnership with Nottingham Trent University to offer students the opportunity to work with young people and gain experience working in local schools. Throughout the scheme you will be working with staff and other students from both universities and will be able to access a range of support on both sites.
