Biography
Omar joined the School as Professor of Macroeconomics in October 2015. He is also Research Professor (on leave) at the Instituto de Análisis Económico (CSIC, Barcelona GSE), which he joined in 2009. Previously, he was Associate Professor at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (1991-2001), Senior Researcher at FEDEA (1994-2001), and Professor at the European University Institute (2001-2009).
Since 2013 and 2014, respectively, he has been the Secretary General of the International Economic Association (IEA) and the Executive Secretary of the Research Institute for Development, Growth and Economics (RIDGE). He is Associate Professor at the Barcelona GSE, and Research Network Fellow at CESIfo.

Omar Licandro's research interests are primarily in the field of macroeconomics, with particular interest in growth theory, innovation, and technical progress. He has important contributions to the understanding of models of vintage capital and vintage technologies, the relation between trade and growth, the measurement of growth, and the demographic transition.
