Description

A School of Education event for Disability Recognition Month

Our event focuses on how best to be an ally of disabled people, both at work and in the community.

We have recruited Dr Laura (Mole) Chapman, a disability equality trainer for over 30 years to record a ‘provocation’. During the seminar we will watch Mole’s contribution, and discuss our responses.

The discussion will be facilitated by Dr Elizabeth Walton and Dr Anne Emerson who both teach on the University of Nottingham's MA Special and Inclusive Education programme.

We believe that many of us who would like to be strong allies to the disabled people in our lives but hold back from fear of making errors. The focus of this seminar is to explore barriers and facilitators of positive social interaction between disabled people and those who seek to be their allies. Our aim is that attendees will gain increased confidence in their role as an ally.
