Traumatic Bereavement Short Film

Callie Harrop is a student on the MA Trauma Informed Practice. She is the Family Support Team Lead at Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield. She manages a multi-disciplinary team of bereavement practitioners, counsellors and creative therapists and family support workers. Callie has been working with colleagues at the recently formed UK Trauma Council and was part of the production team of a short film about traumatic bereavement.

This excellent short film throws important light on bereavement and considers how and why a loss might be experienced as traumatic for a child. It draws attention to the impact of loss on school work, friendship circles and mental health, and highlights how teachers and trauma specialists can talk and work together to provide wrap around support for children and young people to help them get through their distress. Whilst a useful resource for professional stakeholders, it is a helpful watch for parents and children too.
