UCAS Training Provider Code: 2EO
Schools in the Alliance are working closely and effectively together, coordinated by the Local Authority, to ensure the best training for our students. Training is robust and well matched to the needs of our schools.
Derby is an exciting and rewarding place in which to begin a career in teaching because it is such a diverse city. The 14 partner primary and nursery schools are all located within a small radius of the city centre and offer rich and varied opportunities ranging from small suburban schools to denominational schools; schools with expertise in autism to those serving communities with high levels of deprivation.
All of the schools have been judged as good or outstanding in recent years and several have been specifically praised for their work with trainees. As Derby is small in radius, regular opportunities for students to work and meet together are created to ensure a supportive culture for our trainees.
If successful at interview with the partnership, we will have to make a decision together about which school will host your placement, so it is worthwhile researching the partner schools carefully and deciding upon the type of school in which you wish to work.
Places within the partnership have been filled very quickly in previous years and all of the trainees from the first cohort were successful in securing employment in the teaching profession.
If successful on interview with the University, you will be called to interview with the Derby Primary School Alliance. These interviews are with Head Teachers and the LA Officer. You will be expected to complete a group activity with children, answer children's questions and complete a formal interview.
On successful completion of this stage, you will be invited to visit schools who have places available and decide mutually with the Senior Leadership, if the setting is appropriate to you.
After the course
Whilst there is no guarantee of employment after the School Direct course, our aim is to train teachers to work in our alliance of schools.
