Transform Teaching Alliance

The Transform School Direct programme will appeal to individuals who are deeply passionate about education, love working with children and are committed to a successful career in teaching. In partnership with The University of Nottingham, we have carefully balanced school-based training with a fully integrated talent management programme that will build your confidence and resilience as well as the core professional competences required to prepare you for your NQT year.

Our accelerated development programme matches trainees to a school following a school-based interview and selection process that gives candidates the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and aptitudes through face to face interview, classroom practice and a pre-set presentation task. It is also an opportunity to experience first-hand the Transform Programme. 

The majority of applicants choose Transform at this stage stating that their experience was overwhelmingly positive, highly informative and had given them the opportunity to see the quality of our team and genuine desire to identify future teachers for our schools through this programme.

Finding the right school to meet your individual strengths is key to the success of this programme and with over 50 schools within our Alliance we are careful to ensure you are placed according to your area of interest and expertise.

From the first day of the training you will be part of a close-knit team of outstanding practitioners, who have created a dynamic and varied environment for you to grow and develop as a teacher.

Post-University interview

If you are successful at the University interview, your application will then be forwarded to the Transform Teaching School Alliance for consideration. The Alliance will then review your application, with successful candidates being invited to an interview. 

Interviews are held over two days and are designed to give you the best opportunity to assess the full benefits that Transform schools can offer and to demonstrate your skills, personality and potential. 

  • Day 1 - An informal day in school supporting classes and taking part in school life. We also build in time to discuss classroom practice, the Transform School Direct programme and the opportunities offered for trainees and teachers as part of the Teaching School. 
  • Day 2 - A half day comprising: classroom task, interview with school council and one to one interview, when we will discuss your skills and experience as well as your training needs and aspirations. 

We aim to inform you of our decision on the day of interview. 

Once a place has been offered, the Alliance will carefully match each trainee to a placement within one of the schools in the partnership. There are 17 schools in the Alliance which are mainly situated within the city of Nottingham. After the course

Whilst there is no guarantee of employment after the School Direct course, our aim is to train teachers to work in our 50 Alliance schools.


Our employment rates are consistently high, last year 100% of our Primary PGCE School Direct trainees secured employment as a teacher in a school.

When you apply in UCAS-TT  you will need to search for and apply to the 'Transform Teaching School Alliance (Training Provider Code: 1E4)'. The University of Nottingham will be listed as an accredited provider.
