Gordon Stobart

Gordon Stobart is Professor in Education at the University of London Institute of Education. After teaching English in secondary schools he re-trained and worked as an educational psychologist. This led to his doctoral studies in the USA as a Fulbright Scholar. After working as Head of Research at London Examinations he became Principal Research Officer for the National Council for Vocational Qualifications and then for the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. He co-directed the DfES-funded evaluation of the Key Stage 3 Strategy Pilot (2003) and led the QCA-funded evaluation of the two-tier GCSE mathematics pilots (2005).

He is a member of the Assessment Reform Group (ARG), which campaigns for better use of formative assessment in teaching and learning. He is also editor of the international journal Assessment in Education: Principles, Policy and Practice.
