Student Experience

Our students welfare and their experience whilst studying in our department is of paramount importance. In the National Student Survey 2018 our student satisfaction rate was 91% and to ensure this level of satisfaction continues to improve students can access the following resources:

Student Service Centres

The new Student Service Centres and Student Services website are administrative hubs where you can complete a range of tasks relating both to your course and to the wider University experience. This might include handing in coursework, applying for extenuating circumstances, getting access to welfare support or paying your fees. If you have any queries about your time at University then please drop in and ask a member of our friendly team. Alternatively, you can fill in the enquiry form on our website.

Design suite

We have recently invested in a newly refurbished design suite exclusively for engineering students. The suite can be found on ground floor of the Coates Building and is designed to be a comfortable study area with modern audio visual equipment on hand to facilitate team project work to develop students’ interactive and creative skills.

There are also fully equipped modern lecture theatres, 24-hour access to IT and library facilities and extensive laboratories that facilitate scientific apparatus for small-scale modular experiments, through to pilot-scale rigs for the study of unit operations.

A new further design suite is also available to all engineering students in the Engineering and Science Learning Centre (ESLC)

Civil Engineering Society

Run by students for students, the Civil Engineering Society (CivSoc) offers you fantastic opportunities to take part in a number of social events, play sports and make industrial contacts. Students can also get involved with the Science Technology Engineering Maths (STEM) abbassadorial scheme and help inspire the next generation of engineers.

The society provides opportunities to build strong links with industry and network with respresentatives from some of the biggest recruiters of civil engineers.

To find out more about CivSoc visit their website.

Engineering Student Experience Fund.

The Engineering Student Experience Fund (ESEF) is open to bids from across the department and looks to support events, programmes or initiatives that will enhance - not only the student experience - but also our community within the Faculty of Engineering. Previous bids have brought students, staff and alumni alike together to celebrate the diversity, achievements and skill that we see in the faculty every day.

To find out more visit the Engineering Student Experience Fund website.
