  • 89% student satisfaction rate*

Our students' welfare and experience whilst studying in our department is of paramount importance.

To ensure we are delivering these to the highest standard, we give you access to the following amenities:

Student Service Centres

The new Student Service Centres and Students Services website are administrative hubs where you can complete a range of tasks relating both to your course and to the wider University experience. This may include handing in coursework, applying for extenuating circumstances, accessing welfare support or paying your fees. If you have any queries about your time at University then please drop in and ask a member of the team. Alternatively, you can fill in the enquiry form on the website and they will contact you.

Design Suite

We have recently invested in a newly refurbished design suite exclusively for chemical and environtmental engineering students. The suite can be found on ground floor of the Coates Building and is designed to be a comfortable study area with modern audio visual equipment on hand to facilitate team project work to develop students' interactive and creative skills.

All engineering students also have access to the newly equipped design studio in the ESLC which is build as a dedicated student space for group work all within a modern setting and feature new audio visual equipment.

There are also fully equipped modern lecture theatres, 24-hour access to IT and library facilities and extensive laboratories that facilitate scientific apparatus for small-scale modular experiments, through to pilot-scale rigs.

A new further design suite is also available to all engineering students in the Engineering and Science Learning Centre (ESLC)

Mechanical Engineering Society (MechSoc)

Run by students for students, the Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering Society (MechSoc) offers you fantastic opportunities to take part in a number of social events, play sports and make industrial contacts. Students can also get involved with the Science Technology Engineering Maths (STEM) ambassadorial scheme and help inspire the next generation of engineers.

The society provides opportunities to build strong links with industry and network with representatives from some of the biggest recruiters of engineers. To find out more about MechSoc.

Engineering Student Experience Fund.

The Engineering Student Experience Fund (ESEF) is open to bids from across the department and looks to support events, programmes or initiatives that will enhance - not only the student experience - but also our community within the Faculty of Engineering. Previous bids have brought students, staff and alumni alike together to celebrate the diversity, achievements and skill that we see in the faculty every day.
