Seminar: Mobile technologies and increasing connectivity for digitally excluded older users

Description
Human Factors Research Group Seminar: In the EPSRC funded project BRIDGE (Building Relationships with the Invisible in the Digital Global Economy) we investigate the reasons underlying non-adoption of digital technologies. Four studies were completed as part of the BRIDGE project and here we will concentrate on two of those concerned with the use of new technologies and older people. The first study deals with acceptance of new technologies in cars both advanced driver assistance systems and information systems. The study has mainly focussed on acceptance by drivers over 65 years old who hardly use information technologies such as computers and the internet. In this study, we used methods such as questionnaires, focus groups and interviews. To facilitate discussion and to expose participants to new in-car technologies, we have developed a desk-top simulator. Participants are able to drive a simulated car equipped with a simulation of different systems.
