Biography

Ahmed is currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Researcher in Faculty of Engineering at University of Nottingham. Ahmed worked before as a research assistant at Zewail City of Science and Technology, Renewable Energy Engineering Program and participated in Renewable Energy Systems course as a teaching assistant. He had worked before for one year as Assistant Lecturer in the Renewable Energy Group in Environmental Engineering Department at Ain Shams University, and before this for three years as Assistant Researcher in Solar Energy Department at National Research Centre. Furthermore, he worked as electrical engineer at Fayoum University. Ahmed has graduated from Fayoum University as the second of his power and machines engineering class with high honors, and obtained his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with distinguished honors and his master thesis related to renewable energy field.

Ahmed has won an array of awards in the fields of energy and engineering, including "FameLab Cambridge 2018 - Finalist" from Cambridge Science Centre & University of Cambridge, "Green Talent Award 2017" from German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), "Best Research Assistant 2016" from Zewail City of Science and Technology, "Top Reviewer Award 2017, 2016, 2015" from the Elsevier and Renewable Energy Journal and the "Siemens Middle East Student Award 2014". Ahmed served as a reviewer for more than two hundreds scientific research paper in "Energy, Applied Energy, Renewable Energy, Energy Conversion and Management, Energy Policy, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, Cleaner Production and Computers & Operations Research" Journals at Elsevier and IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy Journal at IEEE. He participated in Egyptian Engineering Day (EED 2016 and 2017) and Intel Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF-Egypt 2013 and 2015) as a judge.

Past Research

Ahmed Mohamed worked before on several research projects to improve the efficiency of solar-powered engines. He has worked on boosting the water-pumping capability of Stirling engines, in order to increase access to water in remote rural areas of his country, Egypt. In addition, he worked on a project to develop a new solar tracking system using solar-powered Stirling engine. Furthermore, he participated before in one of European Commission FP7, which is related to Mediterranean activities for research and innovation in the energy sector (MARE). Ahmed had many scientific papers published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals with high I.F. and conferences.
