Associate Professor, Faculty of Engineering
I have extensive experience as an educational facilitator and leader working with academics, engineers and students to create enhanced learning environments able to help future engineers to thrive in the rapidly changing world of work. My work has been recognised by the award of a Senior Fellowship of The Higher Education Academy and a number of institutional and external awards. The most recent was the HE Innovate Award awarded by Pearson in September 2021 in the category of most innovative approach to supporting students.
My teaching includes co-leading the capstone BEng Engineering Design Project and a number of core engineering modules: CHEE2003 Chemical and Phase Equilibria and CHEE3007 Advanced Transport Phenomena.
I also contribute to undergraduate labs and supervise a portfolio of MEng and MSc research projects.
I am currently working with professional bodies & accreditors and I am responsible for curriculum development and accreditation of our BEng and MEng programmes in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical with Environmental Engineering, and Food Process Engineering.

I am a Chemical Engineer who has always been passionate about education and, particularly, about understanding what makes learning happen in the context of universities. I see learning as the process that will help people make better decisions to improve lives and solve current societal challenges: energy transition, mobility and sustainable transport, climate change, healthcare for an aging population, mass migration or social and cybersecurity and safety.
My drive is How can we develop the required expertise to tackle these challenges through education? My research in engineering education is inspired by that question, and I use evidence-based approaches, with a high emphasis on the promotion of EDI, and a culture of empowerment and collaboration.
