Expertise Summary

Marcio is a Geodesist with a PhD in Space Geodesy. He has worked on mitigation of ionospheric effects on Global Navigation Satellites Systems (GNSS) since 2001 and leads the Nottingham Geospatial Institute (NGI)'s research theme 'Propagation Effects on GNSS' (see https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/ngi/research/propagation-effects-on-gnss/propagation-effects-on-gnss.aspx). He currently sits at the Advisory Board of ESA's Ionospheric Weather Expert Service Centre (I-ESC) and led major European projects such as TRANSMIT (www.transmit-ionosphere.net) and CALIBRA (www.calibra-ionosphere.net). Marcio is the coordinator of the recently awarded H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions TREASURE ITN (Initial Training Network) to start in Feb/2017. He has successfully supervised/co-supervised a number of PhD students, with former students and post-doctoral researchers currently occupying posts in academia (e.g. at Oregon State University, Federal University of Pernambuco, Nottingham University) and industry (e.g. at NovAtel Inc., Citibank Brazil, Topcon Italy, Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd, SpacEarth Technology Srl Italy).
