Research Topic

Debilitating situational constraints in second language (L2) use and their interaction with second language self.

Research Summary

Almost every language teacher hears their students' complaining about incapability of learning a foreign language or having a mental block when asked to do language-related tasks. Even when some learners are successful in other areas they do not feel comfortable in language classrooms. As a result, they cannot perform up to their abilities. My primary research interest focuses on investigating this debilitating and situation-specific phenomenon in L2 use. I am specifically interested in how this kind of a disposition interacts with personality factors.

Research Interests

  • Foreign language anxiety
  • Individual differences in second language acquisition
  • L2 persona
  • Social comparison in the language classroom
  • Stage fright
  • Group dynamics
