Current Research

I am a current PhD student based at the University of Nottingham working within the field of speculative and science fiction literature. My primary focus is upon the apocalyptic landscapes of J. G. Ballard's first four novels, sometimes called his 'Environmental Quartet', exploring how they reflect the growing ecological concerns of the 1960s and 70s in order to understand and reflect upon contemporary readings of these texts as workings of climate change fiction. I am interested in the ways in which Ballard engages with a rich literary tradition, both within and beyond the science fiction genre, concerning the relationship and dominance of man over nature, and does so in ways that still have significance for the way in which we construct and conceive of this relationship today.
