I have taught at a number of universities in the United Kingdom and East Asia including the University of Reading, University of Leeds and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. I am also currently a lecturer at York St. John University.

I first taught at the University of Nottingham in 2008 as a teacher of English for Academic Purposes. I also taught for three years at the Ningbo campus in China. Before starting my career teaching in universities, I was a teacher of English in Spain, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

Current Research

My main fields of research interest are discourse analysis, anthropological linguistics, intercultural communication and language, gender & sexuality. I have carried out research in mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong and I am especially interested in how linguistic-ideological systems influence identity, especially amongst marginalised communities.
