Amy joined the University in November 2018, having spent the past five years as a researcher in the UK Parliament. Amy was Senior Parliamentary Assistant to one of Labour's Shadow Brexit Ministers, heading up his policy and communications team. Amy advised on issues including modern slavery, immigration and asylum and higher education policy, as well as Brexit. Amy's work included policy research and development, drafting legislative amendments, political advice, briefing, speechwriting and media relations.

Amy's background is in human rights. She advised the UK government's Commission on a Bill of Rights, worked as a researcher at the LSE's Centre for the Study of Human Rights and as a speechwriter and communications officer at the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights in Vienna, Austria. She speaks fluent French and basic German.

Expertise Summary

Amy is the Political and Public Affairs officer within the Global and Political Affairs Unit in External Relations. Amy supports colleagues across the University to engage with policy makers at the local, national and international levels to further the University's strategic aims. The support Amy provides includes political advice and briefing, events organisation, coordination of the University's external engagement infrastructure and building relationships with policy makers of strategic interest to the University.
