Biographical details

Born in Huamanga, she became a Marquesa in 1740 due to her marriage to Francisco Féliz de Vega. García y García describes her intellect as viveza y solidez". She could read Latin and read and translated some of the classics, which she read at tertulias. Her tertulias were considered to be important cultural centres, at which enlightenment ideas from Europe were discussed. She knew how to listen without imposing her own views. (García y García, 154) She was an accomplished humanist with great knowledge of the Greek and Roman classics who attended literary salons. (Martín, 307)
