Biography:
An intellectual and educationalist born in 1754, who reformed the Chilean economy. He was a member of congress in 1811 and 1823. He was sent into exile to Juan Fernández during the counter revolution 1814-17. He died in 1841. (Lynch, xxi-xxii)
