Born in Arrecifes, Buenos Aires, on 18 October 1815, she married Florencio Varela on 5 September 1831. They lived in exile in Montevideo and had 13 children. In 1848 Varela was assassinated. She returned to Buenos Aires and married Andrés Somellera. They had one daughter. She died in Buenos Aires on 10 May 1910. Josúe Quesada wrote a book about her life, Oro viejo, based on her memories.
