She was born around 1776 and married Peruvian Manuel José de Lavalle y Cortés on 16 September 1791. Their son, General Juan Lavalle became a hero of independence. She was living in Chile during the English invasions of 1806-1807 and on hearing of the victory she minted commemorative silver medals with the inscription: "Doña Mercedes González y Lavalle a los ilustres defensores" and "De su Rey y de su Patria. Liniers, Concha y Lasala. Pudiste sorprenderme pero no vencerme. Buenos Aires sorprendida Junio 27 de 1807" . She died on 10 May 1820 in Buenos Aires. (Sosa de Newton, 281-282)
