She was born around 1800 to a distinguished family in Potosí, Bolivia. On 25 July 1814, royalist brigadier Jerónimo Marrón de Lombera marched into Potosí with around 300 troops. They killed over 100 Indian prisoners and shot 40 patriots and massacred the inhabitants of several nearby villages. Although only around 14 years old, Ramírez protested to Marrón de Lombera who pulled out his sword in anger. One of Ramírez's female slaves tried to disarm him. The two women were apprehended, and sent to prison. Ramírez was sent to the Convento de Recogidas on 10 September 1814, her slave was whipped and sent to a prison. Ramírez later married Bonifacio Alba. (Urquidi, 216-218)
