Possibly from Antioquia, she was the sister of Juan de Díos Morales, wife of Coronel Diego Gómez de Salazar. Her son, Capitán Baltazar Salazar was killed in battle at Tasines on Nariño's orders. Two more sons were in the independence army. In 1816 she was forced to flee with Gómez de Salazar into the mountains of Palagua where she lived hidden in the woods by the River Nare until independence was won. During her exile she suffered ill health and had no idea what was happening to her sons. (Monsalve, 103)
