Biography:
From Bogotá, she was the daughter of Bernabé Ortega and Joaquina Sanz de Santamaría and sister of José Ortega. She married Dr Cristiano Valenzuela on 24 February 1805.
In July 1816 Valenzuela was executed by the royalists. She and her numerous children then lived in poverty and misery. (Monsalve, 138, 144)

She was awarded an annual pension of 200 pesos by Bolívar after independence. (Monsalve, 263)
