Biography:
Born on 1 January 1814, in Mendoza, she was the daughter of Josefa Godoy and José Villanueva, both of established Spanish families. She received a basic education before moving to Chile to study the Sistema Curativo de Hanneman, that was then in fashion. She was recognised afterwards for her knowledge and charitable inclinations. She was religious and patriotic, a Unitarian when Mendoza was federalist. She was imprisoned when she refused to wear the moño colorado. She was one of the founders of the Sociedad de Beneficencia (Mendoza) in 1857. She died in Mendoza on 22 May 1890. (Sosa de Newton, 674)
