In 1787 she went before the ecclesiastical courts accusing Juan Fernando Flores of breach of promise. He was sent to jail and his few possessions were confiscated. The following year he asked to be released as Juana María had another lover and had withdrawn the claim. He was released, but made to pay the court fees. (Díaz, 90)
