She was married to a Spanish captain, Ciro de Vida y Torres, who tried to divorce her on the grounds of her infidelity with the Alcalde de Riobamba, Ignacio Barreto. In 1787 Eugenio de Santa Cruz y Espejo wrote Las cartas Riobambenses, using her name as a pseudonym. Chiriboga then accused him of libel through the courts. (Ochoa, 99-121)
