Geography student to attend ceremony in Las Vegas after being shortlisted for INFORMS competition

A geography student has been invited to attend a ceremony in Las Vegas after her team was selected as a finalist for the first INFORMS competition.

Anna Scholes is currently undertaking a year-long placement with HMRC and is working towards a BSc Geography degree at Nottingham. She entered the INFORMS competition, which provides real-world experience for undergraduate and masters-level students, with her fellow interns at HMRC.

Student teams were given the same business problem, data sets, and access to software to solve a challenging problem using an operations research/analytics approach.

The judging process was rigorous and challenging, with a panel of 16 judges including academics and practitioners, as well as representatives from Syngenta.

Eight finalists have been selected and the winner will be announced on Tuesday 4 April at the INFORMS Analytics Conference in Las Vegas.

INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) is the world's largest society for operations research professionals.
