Describe the normal anatomy of the heart including surface marking.
Describe the structure and function of cardiac muscle.
Define the following terms: blood flow; pulse; blood pressure (systolic and diastolic); resistance; blood viscosity; vasoconstriction; vasodilatation; resistance vessels; capacitance vessels.
State how flow through a blood vessel is influenced by: the pressure gradient along the vessel; the length of the vessel; the fourth power of the radius (r4) of the vessel lumen; the viscosity of the blood and turbulent flow.
Describe how the calibre of an arteriole may be altered, and list the factors that may influence it.
Describe how blood flow differs between the body’s organs, referring particularly to the term autoregulation.
