30 years of nursing

In 2020, we celebrated 30 Years of Nursing at the University of Nottingham. In 1990 the university recruited its first undergraduate students.

Over the past 30 years, we have continued to evolve but always remain a leader in education bringing a revolution in the way nurses are educated.


Studying abroad

You'll undertake eight placements over your three years. This will include an elective placement and a final management placement.

You can arrange to spend the elective placement in another country. This is an exciting opportunity for a more personal experience to gain an international understanding of healthcare.

Adult nursing vs mental health nursing

You can build your career with our tailored degree courses that allow you to develop your critical judgement, clinical skills, and creativity to truly shape your own future in either adult or mental health nursing.

Nursing (Adult) BSc

You'll learn how to care for adults with a range of needs, within a variety of complex settings, to give you flexibility in your future profession.

Nursing (Mental Health) BSc

You'll learn how to care for people of all ages experiencing mental health conditions ranging from depression, addiction, eating disorders and schizophrenia.

  • Each of our nursing courses are split between theory and practice, We nurture your creativity, critical judgement and ability to lead as you develop your clinical skills.
  • Both courses lead to registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Through expert teaching and supportive supervision, you'll learn to attend to patients' health care needs and care for their personal wellbeing. You'll be prepared for whatever challenges you might face as a practising nurse or healthcare leader.

Interview process

Nursing offers are subject to a successful interview, satisfactory health screening, and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.

Your interview will last 30 minutes and is simply an opportunity to confirm you understand the general principles of nursing and to find out a little more about you.

Exceptional facilities at Nottingham

Nursing at Nottingham provides a wide variety of facilities to blend theory with practice including our state-of-the-art immersion suite, which plays virtual reality scenarios so you can experience real-world situations in a simulated environment all with the support and guidance of our teachers and staff.

You’ll also develop the knowledge, skills and attitude required for a successful career in healthcare in our specialist multidisciplinary Clinical Skills Centre. Based in our Medical School in the Queen’s Medical Centre, one of the UK’s largest hospitals, the Centre includes modern high-quality laboratories and a dedicated medical library. The Medical School is also just across the road from University Park Campus, meaning you’re only a short walk away from university life.
