Recognition of Other Learning (ROL)

The ROL process enables credit to be awarded for prior learning and/or experience and the currency of credits to be updated enabling the requirements for registration to be met.

Accessing the ROL Scheme

The ROL process can only be accessed by applying for your chosen degree programme. Once your application has been received you will be sent a receipt. If you do not meet the requirements you will receive a letter setting out the number of credits you need to achieve for registration, and an ROL claim form to be completed and sent to an identified ROL advisor for review.

Applicants with 'non UK' qualifications and other healthcare professionals are strongly advised to make an early application to enable the equivalence of their qualifications to be verified or further information to be provided. Failure to make an early application may result in delays in processing the application and subsequent registration on the degree programme.

Entry requirements for an undergraduate CPD degree

  • 120 credits at level 1 (automatically awarded to all '1st level' registered nurses in respect of their registration qualification and may be awarded to other qualified healthcare professionals)
  • 120 credits at level 2 completed within the last 10 years (40 level 2 credits may be awarded via ROL for current contemporary practice)

The above credits must have been awarded for nursing or health studies (or equivalent) qualifications.
