Biography

Mr. Alan Williams is an Assistant Professor in the School of Health Science and a Registered Nurse with a clinical background in resuscitation and Emergency Care. He has been with the University of Nottingham since May 2006 and moved to the Higher Education sector after over two decades working in the NHS.

Mr. Alan Williams teaches on the pre-registration nursing curriculum to BSc (Hons) and Graduate Entry Nursing students and on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules for registered health practitioners (Registered Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners etc) who are studying toward their degree.

On the BSc (Hons) and GEN Nursing course Alan teaches and facilitates primarily on professional and personal effectiveness in nursing for first year students, numeracy skills, resuscitation and emergency care for senior students and supervises final year students in their dissertations. For CPD learning Alan has produced a reusable learning object (RLO) explaining the dissertation audit option and contributes to evidence based practice teaching.

Alan is University Link Lecturer for a number of acute placement including the Emergency Department, various Theatres and specialist services such as Infection Control in the Royal Derby Hospital and at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and has produced an RLO explaining the theatre environment to students who are unfamiliar with this type of placement.

Current Research

Mr Alan Williams is a doctoral student undertaking a Doctorate in Health Science at the university of Nottingham. His research is investigating the design of web-based educational resources (Reusable Learning Objects - RLOs) by students and tutors to identify how these groups believe established knowledge is best translated into an RLO and establish if there is a difference in the learning effect from each resource.
