Mentor Update: Keeping up to date

It is important that you maintain your status as an active mentor so you can continue to assess students during their placements. To do this, you should have an annual mentor update, contribute to mentoring at least 2 students in a 3 year period and complete your triennial review every 3 years.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) stipulate that mentors should be updated annually and you can complete a mentor update in a number of ways, however you should have a ’face to face’ update once in a 3 year period. It is recommended that you keep evidence of your updates and a record of the students you have mentored as you will need this information for your triennial review and may be used as evidence towards your NMC revalidation.

For information regarding your mentorship status please contact your local trust database holder or practice learning facilitator. Those mentors working in the PVI sector should contact the School of Health Sciences.
