We are one of the UK’s largest, best-funded and most reputable academic schools for health sciences research.
In fact, 86% of our research was ranked as internationally excellent or world leading by the Research Excellence Framework, with Times Higher Education ranking us joint 6th in the UK for research impact. In addition, Research Fortnight ranked the University as 5th in the UK for research power in allied health professions, dentistry, nursing and pharmacy.
What particularly distinguishes our work is the breadth, depth and impact of our research. Our academics are leading projects that influence national and international guidelines, improve the way professionals deliver care and transform the lives of thousands of patients at every stage of life.
We are supported by a variety of different funding streams, including:
- National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)
- Research Councils UK (RCUK)
- MacMillan Cancer Support
Our research groups
Our research is carried out in collaboration with clinical partners, global research centres and healthcare organisations across groups covering rehabilitation, maternal health, mental health, palliative care, skin integrity and digital health. We also have a dedicated Centre for Evidence Based Healthcare that works with our research groups and healthcare partners to provide methodological input, evidence synthesis and training.
