Agonists
Drugs that interact with receptors and produce a response are called agonists. Drugs that function as agonists do so because their chemical structure and shape closely resembles the naturally occurring chemical messenger.
For example salbutamol is a ß2 agonist that causes dilation of the airway and you might have guessed that its action makes it especially useful in an asthma attack.
