Benzyl penicillin is destroyed by the low pH of the stomach and heparin and insulin by digestive enzymes.
Strongly hydrophobic drugs are poorly absorbed because they are insoluble in aqueous body fluids, whilst strongly hydrophilic drugs are unable to cross lipid rich cell membranes.
