Long-term Carers Leave

There are currently over three million carers working in the UK.   As the population ages, increasing numbers of us are balancing work with caring for elderly or sick parents.  Some of us may care for our partners, disabled children or other family members.

With this in mind, we have a Long-term Carers Leave Policy.  This policy enables you to provide substantial full-time care for a dependant relative.  If you meet the eligibility criteria you could take 13 calendar weeks in any period of 12 months long-term carers leave on an unpaid basis.

Since April 2007, carers have had a right to request changes to their working patterns to better manage their caring responsibilities. Parents of children under 16 or of disabled children under 18 and carers of adults, have a legal right to request a flexible working arrangement.  More information can be obtained in the Flexible Working section.
