Advisory Group on Human Rights Leadership meets in Edinburgh

On 17 January 2018, the new Advisory Group on Human Rights Leadership met for the first time in Edinburgh and was joined by Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. Professor Aoife Nolan, Head of HRLC's Economic and Social Rights Unit, is a member of the new Advisory Group.

The group, chaired by Professor Alan Miller, has been established following a commitment in this year's Scottish Programme for Government. It will operate independently from government, and develop recommendations on how Scotland can continue to promote and support human rights.

The Advisory Group has been urged by the First Minister to challenge public bodies to do more to promote human rights. She stressed the need to be ambitious, so that Scotland's commitment on human rights makes a practical difference to people's lives.
