I am researching the life and work of the Very Reverend Dr Alan Richardson KBE (1905 - 1975) in his theological context. Thus I am interested in theological developments in Britain particularly in the period 1900 to 1960. I am particularly interested in English Modernism; the so called religious crisis of the 1960's and the secularization debates around it.
Richardson's work within the Church of England - he became Dean of York in 1964 - will form part of my research, complementing his academic work as he was Professor of Theology and Head of Department at the University of Nottingham 1953 to 1964.
I have conducted interviews with 12 people who were either students under Richardson or colleagues of him at Nottingham University between 1953 and 1964.
I am researching Richardson's archival papers at the MSSC of Nottingham University and will be researching the archive of the Student Christian Mission held at Birmingham University MSSC.
