Guidance on how to remove or forget a wireless network.

How do I remove or forget a Wi-Fi network?

If you have changed your  University password since setting up the wireless network you may need to forget the network and re-connect.

Below are some basic steps on how to remove or forget the Wi-Fi network before setting up again.

If you experience any problems connecting your device, use the Configuration Assistance Tool. It will detect what device and operating system you are running.


Removing eduroam from your devices

Additional instructions for removing eduroam from your device or mobile.

Microsoft Windows

Removing eduroam or another Wi-Fi network from your Windows device.

Windows 10

  1. Click the Network icon on the lower right corner of your screen
  2. Click Network settings
  3. Click Manage Wi-Fi settings
  4. Under Manage known networks, click the eduroam network in the list
  5. Click Forget
  6. To re-connect, follow the instructions here

Windows 7

    1. Right-click the Network icon in the taskbar notification area
    2. Click Open Network and Sharing Center
    3. On the right hand side, click Manage wireless networks
    4. Right-click on the eduroam connection and then click Remove network
    5. Click OK on the Warning dialog box that appears
    6. To re-connect, follow the instructions here

To re-connect to eduroam, it is recommended you download the automatic configuration tool for Windows. You will need to enter your username in the format username@nottingham.ac.uk when prompted.

 

Apple macOS

Removing eduroam or another Wi-Fi network from your  macOS (formerly Mac OS X) device.

If you have used the Automatic Configuration Tool or used eduroam at another institution, you may need to remove the eduroam profile before removing the Wi-Fi network. Please follow these steps first: 

  1. Go to System Preferences
  2. Click on Profiles (if no Profile icon present, skip the following steps)
  3. Select the eduroam profile
  4. Click the minus (-) button to remove the profile. Click Remove if a warning message appears

After removing eduroam profile:

  1. Click the wireless icon in the upper right corner
  2. Click Open Network Preferences... at the bottom of that menu
  3. Select Wi-Fi on the left and click the Advanced... button
  4. Under Preferred Networks, click the eduroam network
  5. Click the minus (-) button below the box to remove the network. Click Remove if a warning message appears
  6. Click the OK button
  7. Click Apply in the previous Network window to save the changes. You may also need to turn the Wi-Fi off and back on again to see the change.
  8. To re-connect, follow the instructions here

To re-connect to eduroam, it is recommended you install the  automatic configuration file for macOS. You will need to enter your username in the format username@nottingham.ac.uk when prompted.

 

Android

Removing eduroam or another Wi-Fi network from your Android device.

To update password follow these steps: 

  1. Select Settings
  2. Select Wi-Fi
  3. Press and hold on eduroam from the list of available wireless networks
  4. Select Modify network
  5. Update password

Alternatively, forget the network and re-connect:

  1. Select Settings
  2. Select Wi-Fi
  3. Press and hold on eduroam from the list of available wireless networks
  4. From the menu that appears, select Forget network
  5. Connect to eduroam following the instructions here
 

Apple iOS

Removing eduroam or another Wi-Fi network from your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. 

If you have used the Configuration Assistance Tool or used eduroam at another institution, you may need to remove the eduroam profile  before removing the Wi-Fi network. Please follow these steps first: 

  1. Open Settings
  2. Select General
  3. Select on Profile (if Profile is not listed, skip the following steps)
  4. Select the eduroam profile
  5. Press Remove Profile
  6. Enter your passcode and press Remove to uninstall the profile

To forget the network and re-connect:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Select Wi-Fi
  3. Press the blue 'i' in a circle and select Forget This Network
  4. Select Forget from the dialog box
  5. Go back to the Wi-Fi menu and follow the connection instructions here

To re-connect to eduroam, it is recommended you install the  automatic configuration file for iOS. You will need to enter your username in the format username@nottingham.ac.uk when prompted.

 

Windows Phone

Removing eduroam from your Windows Phone 8 or Windows Mobile 10 device.

Windows Mobile 10:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Press Network and Wireless, then press Wi-FI to access wireless network options
  3. Press and hold on eduroam
  4. Select Delete from the menu that appears
  5. Connect to eduroam following the  instructions here

Windows Phone 8:

  1. Go to Settings then select WiFi
  2. Select advanced button
  3. Under Known networks, press and hold on eduroam
  4. Press delete
  5. Connect to eduroam following the  instructions here
