A wide range of software, including specialist subject software, is available to support staff and students in their work, studies or research.

What software do I get?

Once you have activated your IT account, students can download Microsoft Office for free on up to five devices.


There are many specialist subject software applications that can be accessed and used from any device or location. Listed below are some of the frequently used applications.

Some applications may only accessible depending on your school or department.

How to access software

There are two methods of accessing specialist software:

  • download from the Software Library to install on a personal or work device
  • remote access via the Virtual Desktop

Software Library

All available software can be found in the Software Library. You can use the search box to locate specific software.

Each package contains additional information, including availability (log in required):

Virtual Desktop

You can access UoN Applications and some specific software remotely via the Virtual Desktop.

How do I make software available for students?

If students need access to software that is currently not available through UoN Applications or the Software Library, please request it by contacting the IT Service Desk.
