Covid-19 Secondment Scheme
Thank you for your interest in our Secondment Scheme. The current circumstances have affected colleagues and various parts of the University in different ways. Some have experienced an increase in workload, whilst others have experienced a decrease. This presents us with both a challenge and an opportunity as we seek to ensure work which can be carried out during this period is able to be delivered. We are looking to do this by providing an opportunity for staff to volunteer to support other areas of the University using their spare capacity through a new secondment scheme.
What is the scheme?
The secondment scheme aims to match volunteers (whose workload has reduced) with opportunities in areas of the University which need additional resource. This should provide you with a chance to use your existing skills and experience in a new setting. The volunteering opportunities are intended to be done alongside your current role.
Who is eligible?
We are encouraging staff at all levels and across all job families to register for this scheme, if your workload has decreased and as long as your line manager is supportive. We hope to offer a wide variety of roles or projects, so you may have the opportunity to gain experience in a different area of the University and to develop new skills.
What will happen to my pay?
Your existing terms and conditions, including pay, will be unaffected by a temporary secondment, even if the role is a different level to your existing role. Your ‘home’ department will continue to pay you as normal. You will be volunteering to use your additional capacity to support another part of the University.

By gaining new experience and learning new skills you will be developing your career. You will have an opportunity to work with new colleagues, thereby building your network of relationships across the University.
