Health Data Research UK

Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) is the national Institute for data science in healthcare. By harnessing health and biomedical data in the UK, HDR UK will develop and apply cutting edge data science approaches to address the most pressing health research challenges facing the public.

HDR UK is a joint investment led by the Medical Research Council, together with the National Institute for Health Research (England), the Chief Scientist Office (Scotland), Health and Care Research Wales, Health and Social Care Research and Development Division (Public Health Agency, Northern Ireland), the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the Economic and Social Research Council, the British Heart Foundation and Wellcome.

Formed in April 2018, the six HDR UK sites, comprising 22 universities and research institutes, work collaboratively as foundation partners to make game-changing improvements in people’s health by harnessing data science at scale across the UK. Each Site has world-class expertise and a track record in using health data securely to derive new knowledge and scientific discovery.

The University of Nottingham is part of the HDR UK Midlands in collaboration with the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, the University of Birmingham, the University of Warwick, and the University of Leicester. The Digital Research Service will be heavily involved in the research initiatives utilising their Data Analytics and Data Science expertise.
