£16795 to £17682 per annum pro-rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

The goal of the laboratories within the Institute is to discover and develop new treatments for devastating diseases such as cancer or those that affect major organs such as the heart, liver and brain.   We are also developing new approaches to capture greenhouse gases, and the recycling of plastics.  To support these important research goals, we require an organised and technical focused individual to provide high quality technical support for the Centre. The role is varied and spread across a wide number of different areas in order to help maintain and monitor equipment and essential building services.

The role is to provide Technical assistance to the Centre and to provide flexible cover for all areas which the Building Team is responsible for to ensure maintenance of essential services to all the researchers within the buildings The role includes planning and organisation of team duties, dealing with maintenance and safety checks issues and tasks.

Duties will include solvent bottle delivery service to laboratories, fumehood safety checks, Laboratory prep room duties including autoclave operation, waste handling and media making.

Candidates should have GCSEs in English, Mathematics and a Science subject (or equivalent) at Grade C and above.  Previous significant work experience in a relevant role.   Candidates should have good organisational skills, be able to prioritise work and have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and students. An understanding of COSHH and safety related issues desirable 

The post is offered on a part time (30 hours per week), fixed term contract until 31 May 2022, to cover maternity leave.
