£32,000 – £35,500 per annum depending on skills, qualifications and experience. Plus significant training package worth up to £5,000.

Based at Mr Lee's Pure Foods Company Ltd, Bournemouth

The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to advance their career through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) working with Mr Lee's Pure Foods Company Ltd and the Flavour Chemistry Group, University of Nottingham. You will develop the flavour quality and stability in the Mr Lee's product range, develop improved New Product Development processes, expand their shelf-life testing capabilities and extend the shelf life of key products to allow access to international markets. You will be based primarily at Mr Lee's Pure Foods Company Ltd, Bournemouth and you will travel to the University of Nottingham, Sutton Bonington Campus on a regular basis. Your role will involve developing the knowledge and capabilities for shelf life, flavour quality and product insight testing at Mr Lee’s Pure Foods and develop appropriate seasoning technologies. You will be expected to use this knowledge to resolve production challenges and enhance the quality of products produced.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 24 months

Qualifications we require as a minimum:

You should hold a BSc and MSc in Food Science (or related subject) and have previous experience in a similar/related role within an industrial or commercial environment.

The successful candidate must possess:

  • Strong professional work ethic
  • Ability to build strong alliances with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organised and methodical

Essential skills we require as a minimum:

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Knowledge of flavour chemistry 

Desirable skills and qualifications:

  • Experience developing dry seasonings for food applications 
  • Experience in sensory and consumer studies
  • PhD (or close to completion of) in Food Science/Flavour Science/Chemical Engineering

About the Flavour Chemistry Group, University of Nottingham

The Flavour Chemistry Group is one of the UK’s leading research groups in flavour science. The KTP is led by Dr Nicole Yang, Assistant Professor and Laboratory Manager and Professor Ian Fisk, Head of the Flavour Chemistry group.   The group actively researches in the area of flavour management and fundamental food chemistry to support novel processing technologies and commercial products.
