The Advanced Data Analysis Centre (www.nottingham.ac.uk/adac) at the University of Nottingham has an exciting nine month research software engineer post available. The University of Nottingham has invested in creating a core facility to support academic researchers and commercial companies to realise the potential of their data. The School of Computer Science and the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science support the Advanced Data Analysis Centre. The successful applicant will be joining this established, thriving and dynamic team that is part of the University’s digital research strategy.

Description
OpenModel is a windows application for solving, parameterising and evaluating mathematical models of dynamic systems. The software has evolved through a series of research projects and applications with the code (Lazarus-Free Pascal) written by science researchers rather than software engineers. The use of the application has reached the stage where it needs professional software expertise to raise the quality and maintainability of the code so it can be made more widely available in as an OpenSource resource.

Qualification/Experience
Essential
•Ph.D. (or nearing completion) in Computer Science or related subjects
•Experience in developing Lazarus-Free Pascal applications
•Experience in developing open source applications (and associated documentation)  
•Some experience in developing software solutions in a research environment

Desirable
•Experience of working in a research environment

This full-time post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 9 months.
