PhD studentship with Nottingham University Business School’s Marketing division.

We are looking for an enthusiastic PhD student who will undertake original research in understanding identity theory in tourism.

Supervised by Dr Carol Zhang, Prof. Jillian Rickly and Prof. Scott McCabe this PhD studentship provides an opportunity for people interested in exploring different types of identities and its (re)construction in tourism. Identity is fundamentally about who one is and what one believes. The process of self-identification is linked to the sense of belonging to a certain group. Hence, the concept of identity provides the platform by which many tourism phenomena can be understood, such as cultural tourism, destination marketing, socio-cultural sustainability, group-based tourist behaviour, and so on. This PhD studentship provides a tremendous opportunity to be involved in the increasing identity debates worldwide as well as contributing to knowledge in the field of tourism. It is anticipated that the student will refine the focus on the study with their supervisors, including investigating a specific identity-related concept in tourism.

This funded PhDs will commence from 1st October 2020. A yearly stipend at current RCUK rates (£15,009), plus UK/EU student tuition fees (£4,414), is available to the successful applicant.
