Kurzweil 1000

What is it and what does it do?

Kurzweil 1000 reads text aloud. It makes printed text (through scanning) or electronic text available to people who are blind or visually impaired. Kurzweil 1000 is installed on PCs which are linked to scanners in the Assistive Technology Rooms (ATR).

In addition, it provides users with document creation and editing as well as study skills capabilities for note taking, summarizing and outlining text.

Licensing

Kurzweil 1000 is available in the Assistive Technology Room (ATR) in:

Students wishing to use this room have to be eligible for the Enhanced Library Support Service and referred by Academic or Disability Support.

Disabled students who wish to have their own copy of Kurzweil 1000 should contact Academic or Disability Support in the first instance.
